When standard rollers are enough
Not every window needs the full blackout system.
The motorised blackout system is built for rooms where light leakage matters — bedrooms, nurseries, theatre rooms. Plenty of other rooms just need a tidy blind that controls daylight. Living rooms, dining areas, offices, kitchens. Standard Roller Blinds are the simpler option there.
- If the room is for sleep or media and you want it dark, the motorised blackout system is the right product.
- If you want privacy and light control but darkness isn't critical, standard rollers do the job at a simpler spec.
- Standard rollers don't close the four edges — sides, top and bottom still let light in. That's normal, not a defect.
- Picking blockout fabric on a standard roller helps the fabric area but doesn't close the edges. We'll tell you that up front.

Common questions
Six things to know before you order standard rollers.
- Standard Roller Blinds are a standalone roller blind with your choice of fabric. The Motorised Blackout Blinds are a fitted system — side tracks, top pelmet, sealed bottom rail and a motorised blind built to close the four edges where light gets in. If you need a dark room, the blackout system is the product. If you just want a tidy roller blind for light control, the standard option is fine.
- Not the same way the full system does. Blockout fabric stops light passing through the fabric area, but it doesn't close the gaps around the sides, top and bottom of the blind. Light will still spill around the edges. For a properly dark room, the Motorised Blackout Blinds system with side tracks and pelmet is the product designed for that.
- Living rooms, dining rooms, offices, kitchens, hallways, bathrooms — anywhere you want privacy and light control without needing a dark room. Bedrooms, nurseries and theatre rooms usually want the full blackout system instead.
