- One press on the remote, or scheduled with SmartHub.
- Open the blind and it's a normal, light-filled room again.
Before
AfterThe theatre-room problem
In a dark room,
even a little light shows.
A theatre room is the one room where light is the enemy. A standard blockout blind darkens the fabric, but light still slips in over the top, down the sides and under the bottom rail. In a normal room you barely notice it. In a media room with the screen on, you do. The room never quite feels dark, and the only fix most people find is to wait until the sun goes down. The real fix isn't a heavier fabric — it's closing the edges the light gets through.
- Daytime light slips in around an ordinary blind and falls across the screen.
- The halo over the roller sits right in your eyeline from the couch.
- Heavy theatre curtains leave a gap where the panels meet, and bunch against the wall.
- In a normal room you barely notice edge light. With the screen on, you do.
- So movie night ends up waiting for the actual night.
Watch the theatre room actually go dark.
No dimmer. No mood lighting. The same window in the same room — open, then sealed. Drop the blind, kill the light.
A dark room starts with the window edges.
Side tracks hold the fabric, a pelmet covers the roller, and a sealed bottom rail meets the sill. In a theatre room that's the whole job: close the edges and the room goes properly dark — at the press of a remote, whatever the time of day.

No daylight stripes across the screen.

Theatre-room scenarios
Every session, properly dark.
A media room does double duty — Saturday-afternoon sport, school-holiday movies, late-night sessions and ordinary daylight living. The system switches the room between all of them.
- Daytime movie mode
Close the blind and the four edges shut. A daytime film or console session without waiting for sunset.
- Still a normal room by day
Open the blind and the media room is a normal room again — natural light and a clean window, no second curtain layer.
- Dark and ready on schedule
Add SmartHub and the blind can close before movie night starts — on a schedule, from the app, or by voice.
- No curtain fuss
The room darkens at the press of a remote — no heavy panels to drag across and fight with mid-film.
- School-holiday cinema
Movies at 2pm in January. The room goes dark while the sun's flat out outside.
- Late sessions, sealed
Streetlights and porch glow stay outside the frame when the credits roll after midnight.
We keep the claims to light: the system makes the room dark. Projector settings, sound and picture are your department.
Quick answers.
- The MAB framed system is designed to cut the light leaks that standard roller and blockout blinds leave around the sides, top and bottom of the window. Whether the result feels like total darkness depends on your window, the reveal depth, and how carefully it's measured and installed. Most customers find it far darker than anything they've used before. Use the window suitability guide before ordering to confirm the system will work for your window.
- The blackout blind sits between two side tracks that run the full height of the window. A pelmet at the top covers the roller mechanism and closes the gap above the fabric. A sealed bottom rail meets the windowsill. Light usually gets in around the edges of a normal blind. The MAB frame covers those edges. The fabric does its job; the frame does the harder job of closing the gaps.
- SmartHub is a small Wi-Fi bridge that connects your MAB blinds to your home network. Once it's connected, you can operate the blinds from a smartphone app, set automatic schedules (open at sunrise, close at bedtime), and use voice commands through compatible smart-home assistants.
- The motor is designed for bedroom use, quiet enough to run without waking someone sleeping nearby. We don't publish a decibel figure. If noise is a particular concern, like a baby's nursery, mention it at the measure and we'll show you how it sounds in person.
- Yes. DIY kits ship Australia-wide and include the motorised blind, the frame components (pelmet, side tracks, bottom rail), the rechargeable motor, a charging cable, fixings and a setup guide. Most customers find the install straightforward with two hand tools and a second pair of hands. Before ordering, work through the Window Suitability guide and the Measuring Guide.
Adelaide & Perth customers benefit from our Salisbury Plains & Bibra Lake facility with faster turnaround times, personalised service, and top-quality locally crafted blinds.

What our customers say.
“Great product, great service. From phone call to install only a week and a half. John and Luke were quick with the install, they had a small challenge with our window frame but it was easily overcome. We would highly recommend MAB for service and quality. Best product to turn day into night.”
“I first got in touch with John, who clearly explained all the details and was extremely professional. The blinds arrived after a few weeks, and converting my existing blinds to motorised ones was incredibly easy. The rail quality is excellent, and everything works perfectly — no light coming through at all. He also provides aftercare service which I thought was good.”
“Highly recommended. Fair pricing, excellent customer service and fantastic product.”
“John at Midnight Anytime Blinds was great — really happy with the customer service provided and the blinds are awesome. We're ordering more for other bedrooms we love them so much.”
“Very easy to install and they look amazing. We have just ordered more for our other bedrooms. A++”
“Wish we had done it sooner. Now the little one can get a good sleep and it helps keep her room cooler in summer months. John and the team were great to deal with and we look forward to having you back to finish off our home.”

Not sure your theatre-room window will work?
The framed system needs a little depth in the reveal — generally around 70 mm at the top for a single blackout blind, with roughly 30 mm of side clearance and 20 mm at the front. Media rooms often have wide windows: a single blind covers openings up to about 3 metres, and wider spans use more than one blind. If the room opens onto a patio through a sliding or stacker door, see the sliding-door page. If you're unsure, send a photo with rough measurements and the team will confirm before you order.
