The bathroom problem

Frosted glass is not
the same as private.

Most bathroom windows were given frosted glass and left at that. It works through the day. At night, with the bathroom light on, frosted glass turns into a glowing panel — anyone outside can see shapes and movement through it. A standard blind or curtain helps, but it was never built to seal the window: light still slips over the top, down the sides and under the bottom rail. And an ensuite throws that light straight through the doorway into the bedroom. A bathroom is used early and late — the room needs to be able to go properly dark, not just dim.

  • At night, frosted glass turns into a glowing panel — shapes and movement show through.
  • Standard blockout blinds and curtains leak light over the top, down the sides and under the rail.
  • An ensuite throws its light straight through the doorway into the bedroom.
  • Bathrooms run early and late — right beside where someone's sleeping.
  • Small, high and awkward windows are exactly where off-the-shelf blinds fit worst.

Watch the bathroom go private and dark.

No dimmer. No mood lighting. The same window in the same room — open, then sealed. Drop the blind, kill the light.

The same framed system, fitted in a bathroom.

Side tracks, a pelmet and a sealed bottom rail close the four edges — the same standard reveal-mount fit used in a bedroom or living room. That's what turns a glowing frosted window into a private one at night, and lets an ensuite go dark without lighting up the bedroom.

Both are blinds. Only one is built around the whole window — side tracks, pelmet, bottom rail.

Bathroom scenarios

Privacy first, darkness on demand.

Main bathrooms, powder rooms and ensuites each use the window differently. The system covers all of them, edge to edge.

  • Main bathrooms and powder rooms

Privacy first, with the option of darkness. Covered edge to edge — no gap to see through, no glow at night.

  • Ensuites off the bedroom

Closing the ensuite window keeps an early shower or a late night from lighting up the bedroom.

  • Private after dark

With the light on inside, frosted glass reads as a glowing panel from outside. Sealed edges keep it dark.

  • No cords near the bath

Cordless and motorised — nothing dangling in reach of the bath, the kids, or the towel rail.

  • Privacy with daylight

Want natural light through the day? A dual system pairs a sheer with the blackout in the one frame.

  • Early starts, late nights

The bathroom runs on your hours. Open and close from the remote, or schedule it with SmartHub.

On moisture: the framed system is metal and fabric and suits bathrooms and ensuites — wipe the blind down if it needs it, and ventilate the room after a shower the same way you would with any window covering.

Quick answers.

  • It depends on reveal depth, width, height and any obstructions like handles, winders or locks. As a guide: a single blackout system usually needs at least 70 mm of reveal depth at the top, with 30 mm side clearance and 20 mm at the front edge. Dual systems usually need at least 90 mm. Widths run 530–3,000 mm and heights run 300–3,000 mm. If you're unsure, use the Window Suitability guide or send us a photo and we'll confirm before you order.
  • Those can affect whether the blind and side tracks fit. Photograph where they sit and send the photos to support@midnightanytimeblinds.com.au before ordering. We'll tell you whether they create an obstruction or whether there's clearance to work around them. Sometimes a custom configuration works; sometimes an outside-reveal mount or a different product is a better fit.
  • The MAB framed system is designed to cut the light leaks that standard roller and blockout blinds leave around the sides, top and bottom of the window. Whether the result feels like total darkness depends on your window, the reveal depth, and how carefully it's measured and installed. Most customers find it far darker than anything they've used before. Use the window suitability guide before ordering to confirm the system will work for your window.
  • The blackout blind sits between two side tracks that run the full height of the window. A pelmet at the top covers the roller mechanism and closes the gap above the fabric. A sealed bottom rail meets the windowsill. Light usually gets in around the edges of a normal blind. The MAB frame covers those edges. The fabric does its job; the frame does the harder job of closing the gaps.
  • Yes. DIY kits ship Australia-wide and include the motorised blind, the frame components (pelmet, side tracks, bottom rail), the rechargeable motor, a charging cable, fixings and a setup guide. Most customers find the install straightforward with two hand tools and a second pair of hands. Before ordering, work through the Window Suitability guide and the Measuring Guide.
  • Adelaide & Perth customers benefit from our Salisbury Plains & Bibra Lake facility with faster turnaround times, personalised service, and top-quality locally crafted blinds.

What our customers say.

I first got in touch with John, who clearly explained all the details and was extremely professional. The blinds arrived after a few weeks, and converting my existing blinds to motorised ones was incredibly easy. The rail quality is excellent, and everything works perfectly — no light coming through at all. He also provides aftercare service which I thought was good.

Small windows are fine — just check the fit.

The framed system needs enough reveal depth to sit inside the window — around 70 mm at the top for a single blackout blind — and it suits small openings, down to 530 mm wide and 300 mm tall. The thing to look at in a bathroom is the window handle or winder: bathroom windows often have an opener low in the reveal that can sit where the blind needs to go. Send a photo of the window and reveal with rough measurements, and the team will confirm the fit before you order.
