Quick orientation
Product
How the MAB system works, sizing, motor and smart-home compatibility.
- It's a motorised roller blind designed to block light at all four edges of the window — the head, the sides and the sill. The mechanism uses a side track + pelmet system to seal the edges that standard roller blinds leave open. Built around the whole window, not just the glass.
- Yes — the system is designed to reduce light leaks at all four edges. The fabric blocks the centre, the side tracks seal the verticals and the pelmet seals the top. That's why it's a system, not just a blind on a tube. See the 100% blackout system page for how the edge sealing works.
- Standard sizing covers 530-3000mm wide and 300-3000mm high. Wider or taller than that, contact us with your dimensions — larger sizes are case-by-case. See the full specifications for the detail.
- A rechargeable DC motor — USB-C charging. You don't need mains power at the window. It ships factory-charged and runs 6-9 months between charges; you recharge roughly every 4 months using the supplied charger. See battery charging for the routine.
- Yes — with the SmartHub accessory, you can control the blinds from your phone through the free Smart Life app (iPhone and Android). The remote works out of the box; app control needs the SmartHub plus a 2.4GHz Wi-Fi network at the property. Once the blinds are in Smart Life you can link them to Google Home or Amazon Alexa for voice control on compatible setups — tell us your setup and we'll confirm before you order.
- Yes. The Dual Blind System puts two blinds inside one pelmet — a sheer/privacy blind for daytime and the blackout blind for night — all within the same clean frame.
- Slightly — and it's worth understanding why. The system sits inside your window with a ~90mm top pelmet, space for the fabric to drop, and a ~50mm bottom rail. You lose a little visible glass, and that enclosure is exactly what lets the system block light at every edge.
- Yes, to a degree. They're designed for blackout first, but the sealed system also helps reduce heat coming in during summer and retain warmth in winter, making the room temperature more stable.
- If light is what's waking you, they're built for exactly that. The sealed frame creates a completely dark room at any time of day — which is why shift workers, parents with babies and light sleepers are the people who use them most.
Ordering
DIY vs install, quotes, fit checks and shipping for made-to-measure kits.
- DIY suits people comfortable measuring and using basic tools, and works anywhere in Australia. Professional install is available in key metro service areas including Adelaide, Melbourne, Sydney, Perth, Brisbane and the Gold Coast — measure, supply and fit done for you. If you're unsure, see how both pathways work or send us photos and we'll point you the right way.
- For professional install, use the free measure and quote form — we visit, measure, and quote on the spot. For DIY, the kit cost is set by the dimensions you enter when ordering through the configurator. Either way, the quote covers everything in the system.
- Check the window suitability guide first — reveal depth, squareness, obstructions and mount surface all affect fit. If you're still unsure, send photos through the fit check form and we'll come back with a yes / no / maybe-with-conditions answer.
- Yes — for a reveal fit you need roughly 70mm of depth for a single blind and 90mmfor a dual. If you're not sure what you have, send a photo through the fit check form and we'll confirm before you order.
- Yes. For openings wider than 3 metres we use multiple blinds side by side to cover the full span. Each blind sits in its own frame, so there's a vertical join (centre post) where they meet, and you'll need a minimum 90mm reveal.
- Yes — in most cases. You need a minimum 90mm reveal in front of the sliding door, and in some setups a minor modification to the top frame (mullion) so the door slides freely without touching the blind. Unsure? Send a photo of your door through the fit check form and we'll confirm exactly what's needed.
- DIY kits ship Australia-wide via courier. Lead time depends on the production queue — these are made-to-measure, so they aren't sitting on a shelf. We confirm the expected window at order and again when the kit dispatches. See the shipping and delivery page for the full picture.
DIY & install
What's involved in fitting the system yourself, tools needed and timing.
- Standard handyperson level — drill, level, screwdriver. Brackets mount to the reveal, the pelmet and tracks attach, the blind clips in. The installation guide walks through it step-by-step. If you're comfortable hanging a curtain rod, you can do this.
- Drill, drill bits (sized to your wall type), spirit level, tape measure, screwdriver, pencil. Brackets and screws are in the kit. If you're mounting into masonry, you may need wall plugs depending on the surface — check the install guide before you start.
- Per window, expect roughly an hour or two for your first one — most of that is measuring, marking and getting the brackets level. Subsequent windows go faster. For professional install, the time depends on the job; we confirm at quote.
- No. The motor is rechargeable — USB-C. You charge it periodically off any normal USB charger. No mains wiring, no electrician. See battery charging for the routine.
Motor & smart home
Charging, remote pairing and phone control through the Smart Life app.
- Not often — the motor runs 6-9 months between charges, and we suggest topping it up roughly every 4 months to stay ahead of it. The signal it needs a charge is the blind not running all the way to the top or bottom on a single press of the remote. Full routine on the battery charging page.
- Each motor comes pre-paired to a remote. If you need to re-pair (replacement remote, multi-blind setup, smart-home integration), there's a pairing sequence on the motor head. See the remote and motor pairing guide for the steps.
- You need the SmartHub accessory — it bridges the blinds to your 2.4GHz Wi-Fi so you can control them from the free Smart Life app (iPhone and Android). Setup is a one-time pairing: download the app, power the hub, add the device, pair each blind and assign it to a room. Once connected, schedules and routines run from your phone.
Warranty & returns
Money-back guarantee, warranty inclusions and what to do if a kit arrives damaged.
- MAB offers a 100% Money-Back Guarantee. Final return conditions, freight responsibility, timeframe and what counts as a valid return are confirmed at order. See the warranty and returns page for the detail.
- Yes — warranty support is included. Exact duration and inclusions are confirmed at order. If you have a fault, contact us with photos and your order number and we'll work through it. Full terms on the warranty and returns page.
- Photograph the carton and contents before doing anything else. Call us on 08 8359 5935 with your order number and the photos — same day if you can. Transit-damage claims are strongest when they're flagged on arrival. More detail on the warranty and returns page.
